SAN DIEGO – No. 41 San Diego's 12-match winning-streak came to an end with a 4-0 defeat against No. 8 Pepperdine on Friday afternoon at the Hogan Tennis Center.
 
It is the Toreros (14-3, 5-1 WCC) first loss since Feb. 16.
 
USD nearly won the doubles point before the Waves (16-3, 6-0 WCC) won three consecutive singles matches in straight sets.
 
Pepperdine won the first doubles match at No. 2 but the Toreros leveled the match when Kati Kukaras and Gemma Garcia earned a 6-4 win at No. 3. It was their team-best 13th victory in a row.
 
Solymar Colling and Maria-Paula Torres jumped out to a 3-0 lead at No. 1 doubles but Pepperdine's Jessica Failla and Anastasia Iamachkine rallied to win the next five straight games to take a 5-3 lead. Colling and Torres won the next two games to level the match at 5-5.
 
Failla and Iamachkine responded by winning the next two games to win 7-5 and seal the doubles point for Pepperdine.
 
Solymar, ranked 64th nationally, won her first set against No. 43 Ashley Lahey, 6-3. The pair battled in a back-and-forth second set, which was tied 5-5 when the match was called due to the Waves clinching the fourth point.
 
Pepperdine won their matches at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions to go up, 3-0. Failla provided the deciding point at No. 3 when she defeated Daniela Morales, 6-2, 6-4.
 
The Toreros will look to get back on track Sunday when it plays host to Loyola Marymount at 11 a.m. PT in their final home match of the season.
