STOCKTON, Calif. – San Diego clinched its best regular-season finish since 2012 with a dominating 4-0 victory at Pacific on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Toreros (17-3, 8-1 WCC) finished second in the WCC behind only No. 6 Pepperdine. It is the first top-two finish for USD since winning the regular-season title in 2012.
 
The Toreros earned the No. 2 seed in next week's WCC Tournament and get an automatic bye to the semifinals on Friday at 10 a.m. PT. USD will take on the winner of the match between the No. 3 and No. 6 seeds.
 
The Toreros got off to a quick start with solid play in doubles. Maria-Paula Torres and Solymar Colling made quick work of their opponents at No. 1 with a 6-1 victory. The duo improved to 11-4 in dual matches and 5-2 in WCC play.
 
Kati Kukaras and Gemma Garcia clinched the doubles point shortly after with a 6-3 win at No. 3. It was their 16th consecutive victory.
 
Colling doubled the Toreros lead in singles play with a 6-0, 6-4, win at No. 1 against Anneroos Nederstigt. It was her seventh straight victory and she improved to 7-0 in WCC play.
 
Garcia put USD up 3-0 with a 6-4, 6-2, win at No. 2 against Karina Vyrlan. She improved to 9-3 in dual matches and it was her first victory in the No. 2 position.
 
Maria Tyrina provided the clinching point with a 6-4, 6-4, victory at No. 6. The win snapped a three-match losing streak for Tyrina who improved to 7-4 on the season.
 
USD will look to keep its momentum going next week at the WCC Tournament.
