CLAREMONT, Calif. – No. 36 San Diego suffered a heartbreaking 4-3 loss against Gonzaga in the WCC Tournament semifinals on Friday afternoon.

The Toreros (17-4) jumped out to a 3-0 lead and seemed to be in command of the match but the Bulldogs (13-9) reeled off four straight victories to win the match.

The defeat snapped a three-match winning-streak for USD and is only their second loss in the past 17 matches.

The Toreros got off to a good start in doubles with
Gemma Garcia and
Kati Kukaras winning their match at No. 3, 6-1. The duo has won 17 straight matches.

Daniela Morales and
Maria Tyrina secured the doubles point with a 6-2 win at No. 2.

Tyrina doubled USD's lead to 2-0 with a quick 6-2, 6-4, win at No. 6. It was her second straight win and she improved to 8-4 in dual matches.

Morales put the Toreros up 3-0 with a 6-4, 7-5, win at No. 3 against Domonique Garley.

However, Gonzaga reeled off victories at No. 2, No. 1, and No. 5, respectively, to level the match 3-3.

Kukaras dominated her first set against Vlada Medvedcova at No. 4, 6-0. Medvedcova responded with a 7-6 victory in the second set and edged Kukaras, 6-4, in the third to win the match and send the Bulldogs to the WCC Tournament final.

The Toreros will await their postseason fate as the NCAA Tournament selection show will take place on Monday at 3:30 p.m. PT.
