LOS ANGELES – No. 38 San Diego's season came to a close Saturday morning with a 4-2 loss against No. 28 LSU in the NCAA Tournament first round at the Los Angeles Tennis Center at UCLA.

The Toreros (17-5) recorded its best season since 2012 and returned to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since that season in 2019. USD's 17 wins is its most since the team registered 19 in 2011.

Solymar Colling earned one of her most impressive victories of her stellar freshman season, defeating No. 12 Eden Richardson at No. 1, 6-3, 7-5. Colling played every match at No. 1 this season and improved to 15-5 in dual matches on the year.

Colling's individual season will continue at the NCAA Championships singles tournament.

Maria-Paula Torres capped her collegiate career by winning her match at No. 5 against Anna Loughlan, 6-3, 6-4.

Despite the wins by Colling and Torres, the Toreros were unable to secure the matches needed to secure the victory after the Tigers (17-11) won the doubles point and earned three straight-set victories in singles.

The future remains bright for the Toreros who expect to return five of six starters next season.
