San Diego men’s tennis signs Iowa transfer Davies to an NLI

SAN DIEGO - San Diego men's tennis has signed Iowa transfer Will Davies to an NLI, head coach Ryan Keckley announced on Monday.

Davies, a two-time captain for the Hawkeyes, will transfer as a graduate student with one year of eligibility remaining.

"We are very excited to welcome Will to USD next year," said Keckley. "He's an experienced athlete who will fit into our established culture of success right away. I've been following his collegiate career at Iowa for the past three years and what stood out the most is his knack for winning."

"He thrives in the competitive, team environment and lives for those high-pressure moments. He's raised the bar during his time in Iowa City through his work ethic and leadership, and I know he will strive to lift the standard at USD as well."

A native of Norwich, England, Davies is ranked No. 9 all-time in Iowa history for combined singles and doubles victories with 123. His 59 career doubles wins and 64 career singles wins rank him 11th and 12th respectively, in school history.

During the abbreviated 2020 spring campaign, he won a team-best 13 singles matches and ended the year on a career-best 12-match winning streak. Davies ranked as high as No. 10 in the nation in doubles as well.

Davies earned All-Big Ten second team nods for the 2019-20 campaign as he became a part of the first Hawkeye doubles team in 20 years to qualify for the ITA Fall National Championships.

Along with his all-conference recognition, Davies was named Iowa's Big Ten Sportsmanship award recipient after demonstrating good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting and remaining in good academic standing.
