SAN DIEGO -- Leticia Soares was potent off the bench for the second straight game as the Toreros (15-9, 9-4 WCC) beat Pacific (14-11, 7-7 WCC) 66-61 at home on Thursday night.

San Diego had three players score in double figures, led by Soares, who had 16 points, four rebounds and two steals. Redshirt junior
Jordyn Edwards tacked on 11 points, six rebounds and three steals, and
Myah Pace chipped in as well with 10 points.

Madison Pollock pulled down four offensive rebounds to pace San Diego's offense that racked up second chance opportunities, grabbing 12 boards and turning them into 17 second chance points.

The San Diego defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Thursday's game, forcing 26 Pacific turnovers while committing 18. Those takeaways turned into 28 points on the offensive end of the floor. Edwards' three steals led the way individually for the Toreros.

San Diego started off strong, putting together a 23-12 lead heading into the second quarter. Soares led the charge, scoring 10 of the Toreros' 23 points in the period. San Diego did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 14 points close to the basket.

The Toreros maintained their lead in the game's second frame and entered halftime with a 34-30 edge. San Diego continued to dominate in the paint, scoring eight of its 11 points close to the basket. In the first half, San Diego outshot the Tigers from the field shooting 53.8 percent.

The Tigers crept back into the contest, creating an eight-point advantage with four minutes remaining off a jumper from Brooklyn McDavid. The Toreros continued to lose ground before Soares hit a buzzer beater in the paint to pull San Diego within six, 50-44, heading into the fourth.

USD rallied in the game's final frame, outscoring Pacific (CA) 22-11 and overtaking the Tigers for good on a jumper by
Madison Pollock with under 30 seconds to go to grab the 66-61 victory. San Diego took advantage of five Pacific turnovers in the quarter, scoring nine points off of those takeaways.

The Toreros are back in action on Saturday, when they'll take on St. Mary's at 2 p.m. (PT) inside Jenny Craig Pavilion.
