SAN DIEGO – After nearly two weeks away from competition, San Diego men's tennis returns to action this weekend with a pair of home matches against Oregon and LMU on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
USD (3-3) last played on February 9 at #25 Oklahoma and has not competed at home since February 2 vs. Washington. Oregon will be the second and final Pac-12 opponent for the Toreros in the regular season play while LMU represents USD's first WCC match of the year.
This is the second year in a row the Toreros and Ducks will square off. In last season's meeting, Oregon escaped with a narrow 4-3 win in Eugene in early February.
Sunday's contest against LMU will kick off the conference season for the Toreros and Lions. USD, the six-time defending WCC champions, have won 16 straight against LMU, including a tight 4-2 contest in last year's WCC Tournament semifinals. After the Lions came back to tie the match at 2-2,
Nico Borter earned a comeback victory at No. 3 before
Gui Osorio completed his own comeback by winning in tiebreaker in sets two and three at No. 1 to seal the victory.
Osorio, after only playing in three singles matches this season, appeared at No. 62 in the latest Oracle ITA Division I rankings.
August Holmgren was the only other Torero be ranked as the junior stands at No. 102 in the singles.
In other national rankings, doubles pair Osorio and Borter stayed at No. 31 this week.
USD and Oregon are set to square off at the Hogan Tennis Center on Saturday at 10 a.m. while Sunday's match against LMU is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.
