SAN DIEGO -- San Diego (18-10, 12-5 WCC) took a 16-13 first-quarter lead and did not trail from there on the way to a 54-50 victory over LMU (7-23, 3-14 WCC) at home on Thursday night.
The Toreros had two players score in double figures, led by
Myah Pace, who had 16 points and six rebounds.
Jordyn Edwards tacked on 13 points, three steals and two blocks, and
Madison Pollock added five points, seven rebounds, two steals and two blocks.
San Diego forced 24 LMU turnovers while committing 12 themselves in Thursday's game. The Toreros turned those takeaways into 20 points on the other end of the floor. Edwards' three steals led the way for San Diego.
San Diego started off strong, putting together a 16-13 lead heading into the second quarter. USD did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 14 of its 16 points close to the basket.
The Toreros used the second period to increase their lead and entered halftime with a 26-19 edge. San Diego dominated in the paint, scoring eight of its 10 points close to the basket.
After intermission, San Diego held on to its advantage and owned a 40-37 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
USD held on for victory in the fourth quarter by outscoring the Lions 14-13. The defense took advantage in the period forcing six more LMU turnovers in the quarter to score four points of those takeaways.
The Toreros are back in action on Saturday, when they'll take on Pepperdine at 2 p.m. (PT) for Senior Day inside Jenny Craig Pavilion.
