1. Toreros Remained Ranked in Individuals
August Holmgren (No. 52) and
Gui Osorio (No. 58) remained unchanged in their singles rankings in the latest Oracle ITA Division I Men's Rankings, which were announced earlier this week. The two Toreros play the top-two spots in the singles lineup.
In doubles, Osorio and
Nico Borter slid down to No. 42 despite being undefeated as a pair this season at 4-0. The two topped UCSB's Joseph Guillin and Alejandro Vedri 6-2 this past Monday to pick up their fourth win.
Pacific features one ranked player – No. 120 Philip Hjorth – but he has not played singles in the last six matches. Hjorth did play doubles, though, in the Tigers' match against Hawaii on Wednesday.
2. Conference Play
USD started its defense of its six straight titles with a 4-0 win over LMU on February 23. Entering the Pacific matchup, the Toreros have won 17 of their last 19 WCC regular season contests.
3. Gamerov Proves Pivotal
Senior
Joel Gamerov, who has played No. 2-4 positions in singles, is the only Torero with an unblemished singles record this spring. He is 8-0, including 4-0 at No. 3 where he played this past Monday. His match against UCSB was crucial as he gave the Toreros the decisive point in a 4-3 win – USD's first win in a true road match this season.
