Charlie Reiter sit within striking distance of the top of the leaderboard of the 121st SCGA Amateur Championship as the two Toreros are tied for sixth after three rounds at the Goose Creek Country Club (Par 70, 6,839 yards).
Reiter turned in his third round of the week in the 60s after carding a 3-under 67 on Wednesday while Kay, who entered the day as the tournament leader, shot 1-over 71. The two are both 7-under 203 for the tournament entering Thursday's final round.
The Toreros are five strokes back of the leader Caden Fiorini, who shot a 9-under 61 on Wednesday to sit at 12-under 198 going into the final day. He is four strokes ahead of four competitors sitting in second place at 8-under.
Reiter, who had back-to-back 68s to start the tournament, had five birdies and only one hole below par in Wednesday's round. He was par or better from holes 5 through 18.
Kay had two bogeys in his first three holes on Wednesday, but he bounced back by going par or better in 14 of the remaining 15 holes. The San Diego native finished with a 71, after carding a 63 in the first round and 69 in the second.
The two will aim for the amateur title on Thursday. Kay tees off at 10 a.m. while Reiter follows shortly after at 10:10 a.m.
