KANSAS CITY, Mo. - San Diego women's soccer earned the Team Academic Award from United Soccer Coaches for its exemplary performance in the classroom during the 2019-20 school year, the organization announced on Thursday.
This marks the fourth time the Toreros have received the recognition after garnering a 3.33 GPA in 2019-20.
"Credit to our team for their hard work in the classroom," said assistant coach
Leigh Ann Brown who serves as the program's academic liaison. "I am really proud of these young women for staying disciplined and focused during this time of adversity. This is just one of the many reasons we love working with them every day."
A total of 889 college teams earned the Team Academic Award, as San Diego was one of 172 schools to have both its men's and women's programs recognized.
United Soccer Coaches annually celebrates the academic achievements of high school and college soccer teams whose student-athletes collectively demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their studies over the course of a full academic year.
College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a composite grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster for the 2019-20 academic year.
