SAN DIEGO - The Toreros (5-3, 2-1 WCC rallied from a four-point deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat BYU (6-2, 2-1 WCC) at home on Monday night, 58-56.

The Toreros had two players score in double figures, led by redshirt senior
Jordyn Edwards, who had 13 points, five assists and a career-high six steals.
Erica Martinsen tacked on 12 points (4-for-5 from three) and two steals off the bench, and
Kendall Bird added nine points.

San Diego forced 26 BYU turnovers while committing just 15 themselves in Monday's game. The Toreros turned those takeaways into 25 points on the other end of the floor as Edwards' six steals led the way for San Diego.

San Diego started off strong, as Edwards quickly scored four points off of two steals to create a 7-3 advantage with six and a half remaining. The Toreros continued to chip away, putting together a 14-11 lead heading into the second quarter. San Diego did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring eight of its 14 points close to the basket.

BYU dwindled San Diego's advantage to merely one in the early minutes of the second quarter before taking a two-point edge, 16-18, with seven minutes to go. Martinsen came through clutch beyond the arc, nailing a three-pointer from the top of the key with 4:55 remaining to give USD a one-point lead. The Toreros maintained their lead the rest of the quarter to enter the half up 23-21.

San Diego and BYU continued to battle back-and-forth through the third, as the Toreros faced a four-point deficit to enter the fourth, 46-42. San Diego took advantage of four BYU turnovers in the quarter, scoring six points off of takeaways.

Martinsen led the charge as USD rallied in the game's final frame to outscore BYU 16-10. The Clarence, Ny. native came through from three, shooting a perfect 2-for-2 from beyond the arc in the period. A made free throw from
Myah Pace with a minute to go and another with nine seconds on the clock from Edwards secured the 58-56 victory. San Diego took advantage of eight BYU turnovers in the fourth, scoring seven points off of those takeaways.

The Toreros are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 9, when they'll take on LMU on the road at 2 p.m. (PT).
