Cross Country Finishes Season at West Regional Championship

The men's team finished in 28th and the women's team finished in 31st

SACRAMENTO—The men's and women's cross country teams competed in the NCAA West Regional Cross Country Championships on Friday, November 12. 

"Our men's and women's teams fought the entire race, and for that I am so grateful. There was unity on both teams and we moved forward, but we came for more." said head coach Coach Will Guarino.

The women's team placed 31st overall beating out WCC opponents Pacific and Pepperdine. Leading the Toreros was Gianna Sbarbaro paced at 21:50, followed by Madeleine Heller at 23:02 and Daniella Hubble seconds behind at 23:09. Similar to the WCC Championships in October, the freshman had some of the best times for San Diego with Heller in second place and Hubble in third for San Diego. 

The men's team fought hard until the very end and placed 28th overall. Leading the Toreros was Ethan Steiner with a time of 32:09, followed by Josh Thompson at 33:10 and Walter Coleman at 33:19. This is the sixth consecutive race that Steiner has placed first for San Diego. 

This race concludes the men's and women's cross country season for 2020-21. The teams will begin transitioning into training for their track season this spring.
