Football Earns Share of 12th PFL Title With 41-16 Win At Stetson

DELAND, FL – San Diego football (7-4, 7-1 PFL) earned a share of its PFL-record-tying 12th regular-season title with a dominant win over Stetson (4-7, 2-6 PFL), 41-16.
 
The Toreros took control early, leading 13-0 after the first quarter and 27-0 at halftime.
 
Graduate quarterback Mason Randall completed 21-of-31 passes for 337 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions.
 
Senior running back Emilio Martinez compiled 193 total yards, including 132 rushing on 17 carries and a touchdown.
 
Redshirt junior wide receiver Christian Brown caught six passes for 109 yards and a touchdown. The freshmen wide receiving duo of Vance Jefferson and Ja'seem Reed combined for 10 receptions for 155 and two touchdowns.
 
Defensively, senior cornerback Cassius Johnson snagged his second interception of the season, while senior linebacker Kyle Bilchik and redshirt sophomore defensive tackle Will Buck each registered two sacks.
 
Both San Diego and Davidson ended the regular season with a 7-1 record, but the Wildcats earn the PFL's automatic bid with a head-to-head win over the Toreros on September 25. USD ended the regular season with seven straight wins.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
  • San Diego got on the board first on its first drive. Vance Jefferson caught two passes for 28 yards, and Eickert eventually hit a 35-yard field goal to put USD up 3-0.
  • After a defensive stop, Randall hit Martinez up the middle for a 55-yard gain. A Stetson pass breakup in the end zone resulted in a 37-yard field goal from Eickert to make it 6-0.
  • Christian Brown caught a pass in the flat and evaded multiple defenders for a 38-yard gain on USD's third drive. Randall later found Jefferson in the middle of the end zone for a 22-yard touchdown. San Diego led 13-0 with 4:03 left in the first quarter.
  • Freshman Ja'seem Reed made an acrobatic catch off of a deflection for 29 yards late in the first quarter. Randall later threw a 21-yard touchdown to Christian Brown to make it 19-0.
  • Reed juked his defender on a slant and took it 38 yards for a touchdown. Dominic Graziani scored on the two-point conversion to make it 27-0 with 11:37 left in the second.
  • San Diego took a 27-0 lead into halftime. The Toreros held a 355 to -8 advantage in total yards through the first 30 minutes.
  • Stetson connected on a 50-yard pass to get into the red zone, but Cassius Johnson intercepted a pass at the USD 6 to keep the Hatters off the board.
  • Martinez registered a 33-yard rush followed by a 36-yard touchdown run to put San Diego up 34-0 with 9:30 left in the third quarter. The Toreros needed just seven plays to go 94 yards on the drive.
  • Stetson used a 75-yard touchdown drive to get on the board late in the third quarter. The two-point conversion failed.
  • After Maverick Martin blocked a punt, San Diego capitalized with a one-yard touchdown run from Terrence Smith to make it 41-6.
  • Stetson added a touchdown and a field goal in the fourth quarter, but USD held on for the 25-point win.

  • Lindsey is now 75-25 in his career, including 64-6 in conference play.
  • In the first half alone, Randall completed 17-of-24 passes for 304 yards and three touchdowns.
  • Martinez has 4,956 all-purpose yards and 3,173 rushing yards in his career, which both rank second all-time.
  • Smith scored his 19th career touchdown (18th rushing). 
  • Jefferson leads the team with 44 receptions and 498 receiving yards this season.
