SAN DIEGO - San Diego men's tennis (4-2) fell just short in a hard fought battle against No. 18 Arizona (14-1), losing 4-3 on Sunday at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center. 

"Obviously not the outcome we had hoped for, but the boys left it out on the court during this four hour match and competed well", said head coach Ryan Keckley. "Give credit to a very tough Arizona team as they fought tooth and nail throughout the match." 

"We have been talking about the back and forth momentum swings we would experience this weekend and it was exactly that today." 

The match started off strong for the Toreros who won the double's point with a 6-3 win by Blake Kasday and Marvin Schaber followed by a 6-2 win by August Holmgren and David Norfeldt. 

Arizona knotted the match at 1-1 with a 6-1, 6-2 win on court 6 and took a 2-1 lead with a 6-2, 6-4 win on court 3. 

However, San Diego responded with a 7-6, 6-2 win by Sacchitt Sharrma on court 5 which tied things up at 2-2 which was followed by 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 win by Holmgren on court 1 which put San Diego ahead 3-2. 

Arizona regained the lead with a 6-1, 6-7 (7-4), 6-1 win on court 4 and clinched the match with a 0-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) win on court 2. 

Despite the loss, coach Keckley knows there are a lot of positives to take away from today's tough defeat. 

"Our doubles continues to be a strength for us as does August Holmgren in singles. He didn't have a pretty performance, but gritted out a nice win against another ranked opponent," said Keckley. "We'll use this experience to push forward in preparation for our upcoming road trip to Dallas."

The Toreros will be heading to the Lone Star State for a pair of matches this week. The first is on March 11 against SMU and the second on March 12 against Texas Tech.
