SAN DIEGO - San Diego men's tennis (7-9, 4-2 WCC) returned to the Skip and Cindy Hogan Center for the first time since March 19 and defeated WCC foe Santa Clara (6-7, 3-4 WCC) 4-1 on Sunday afternoon. 

"It had been a long stretch of matches on the road, and to come back to our home facility with this energetic crowd made a difference.", said head coach Ryan Keckley. "We relied on our leadership of our veterans to get the job done in a convincing fashion." 

The Toreros fell behind when Marvin Schaber and Garrett Kurtz were defeated 6-3 in doubles, and San Diego lost the doubles point when August Holmgren and David Norfeldt fell 6-4 on court one. 

The team responded in singles play, led by Kurtz, who dominated his opponent on court five and evened up the 1-1 with a 6-1, 6-2 win. The lead was extended by Holmgren, who picked up his 12th match win of the year with a 6-2, 6-4 win on court one.

"I was really proud of Garrett for getting us on the board to even the score after a disappointing doubles result. He had some dog in him today, which helped us secure the win. August continues to impress us with his professionalism and level of play." 

Nico Borter put the Toreros on the brink of a win with a thrilling 7-5, 6-2 victory on court two, and seconds later, Norfeldt clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win on court three. 

The win pushed San Diego up to third in the WCC standings. 

The Toreros will be back on the court Friday, April 23 when they travel to take on LMU at 1:00 p.m. (PT).
