PROVO, Utah - San Diego softball (10-22, 2-6 WCC) dropped games one and two in the series against BYU (26-13, 5-0 WCC) on the road on Friday night.

GAME 1 | San Diego 1, BYU
The Toreros battled against the Cougars in game one coming up just shy, losing 3-1 in the opening contest.

Madison Earnshaw (3-10) earned the start in the circle and took the loss. The right-hander went six innings, giving up three runs, zero earned, on four hits. Earnshaw limited BYU to just 1-for-5 (.200) with runners in scoring position.

Senior Halle Kyler served as the sole offensive bright spot in game one, accounting for two of San Diego's three hits and an RBI.

Trailing 3-0 after four, the Toreros put up runs in the top of the fifth as an RBI single from Kyler scored Alexia Torculas from second. The Toreros unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

GAME 2 | San Diego 3, BYU 11
The Toreros early scoring effort was not enough in game two as the Toreros fell 11-3 in five innings.

Courtney Rose (1-8) came in in relief and took the loss in the circle, giving up six runs, three earned, on five hits.

At the plate, San Diego was led by Bjerk, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a double and three RBIs. Freshman Malia Benson compiled a standout performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-2 with a double and a walk.

The Toreros got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. San Diego got an RBI single from Bjerk, scoring Benson from second base.

After the Cougars rallied to tie the ballgame at one, the Toreros came back to retake the lead in the top of the third. Bjerk came through with a two-run double over the left fielder's head to bring home Amanda Limon and Benson to bring the Toreros lead to 3-1.

The Toreros were unable to hold the lead, as BYU scored 10 times over the remaining two innings to grab the 11-3 win.

San Diego will look to avoid the sweep and pick up the first road win in program history against BYU as game three gets underway at noon (PT) on Saturday, April 24.
