SAN DIEGO - Winners of nine in a row, San Diego women's tennis (14-3, 6-0 WCC) will return to the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center for its two most significant matches of the season, a showdown with No. 7 Pepperdine (19-3, 7-0 WCC) on Sunday, April 25 at 11:00 a.m. (PT) followed by a matchup with Gonzaga (12-7, 4-2 WCC) on Wednesday, April 28 at noon (PT).
The Toreros head into this pair matches controlling their own destiny. With a win in both matches, San Diego would clinch its first WCC Championship since 2012 and secure an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2019.
The Toreros will also have an opportunity to tie the program record for most consecutive wins (11) and break the record for the best overall winning percentage (.760) set back in 2011.
San Diego has already passed a historical mark this season with the 4-0 sweep of No. 44 Washington securing the Toreros' 10th sweep of the year, passing the all-time program record of nine set in 1983.
Against the Huskies, San Diego continued their trend of fast starts as Kati Kukaras and Elisabeth Andryukhova won their doubles match 6-2, and
Jordyn McBride and
Abigail Desiatnikov clinched the doubles point for the Toreros with a 6-4 win, marking their seventh straight win.
Multiple players continued their singles winning streaks, starting with Victoria Kalaitzis, who made quick work of her opponent with a 6-1, 6-1 win on court five, which pushed the lead to 2-0. It was Kalaitzis' ninth straight win. McBride won her seventh in a row with a 6-4, 6-2 win on court three, and Desiatnikov clinched the match and won her seventh in a row as well with a 6-3, 6-2 win on court four.
