Seniors Honored as Toreros Sweep Gonzaga

Kati Kukaras clinches win in final home match

SAN DIEGO - San Diego women's tennis (15-4, 7-1 WCC) honored its four seniors on Wednesday and defeated Gonzaga (12-8, 5-3 WCC) 4-0 in their final home match at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center.

The sweep was the Toreros 11th of the season, a new program record.

Getting off to fast starts in doubles has been a trademark of the Toreros all season and that trend continued today as Solymar Colling and Elizabeth Goldsmith won their 11th doubles match of the season with a quick 6-1 win on court one. The doubles point was clinched by Abigail Desiatnikov and Jordyn McBride who won their 11th match of the year as well with a 6-1 win on court two.

In singles, San Diego continued to make quick work of their opponents as Colling improved her record to 14-4 with a 6-0, 6-2 win on court one. McBride won her 14th match of the year as well with a sweeping 6-0, 6-0 win on court three.

Playing her final home match as a Toreros, Kati Kukaras clinched the match for San Diego with a 6-1, 6-0 win on court five.

Aftet the match, Kukaras and Maria Tyrina were honored along with former Toreros Daniella Morales and Gemma Garcia who graduated in 2020.

San Diego will now wait until Monday, May 3 to find out if they will receive at at-large bid to the NCAA tournament. The selection will begin at 3 p.m. (PT) and will be streamed on NCAA.com.
