SAN DIEGO – In a matchup of prolific offenses, the San Diego softball program dropped a 10-inning decision to UCLA, falling 15-7 on Sunday afternoon at the USD Softball Complex.
Â
How It Happened
- The Bruins were the first team on the board, scoring three runs in the opening frame.
- However, the Toreros were able to get a run back quickly, as Amanda Limon laced an RBI double off All-American pitcher Megan Faraimo to cut the deficit to 3-1. Â
- The UCLA offense was able to add on to its lead, expanding to a 9-1 advantage.
- That would not deter the Toreros, who loaded the bases on Faraimo in the fourth inning. Joecellia Roberts was able to clear two off the bases with a double of her own to shave the lead to 9-3.
- The two sides would trade runs in the fifth, as Ashley Daugherty picked up an RBI groundout to make it 10-4.
- While UCLA was able to continue to gain offensive momentum, the Toreros would also find success against the 2021 NCAA Women's College World Series qualifiers.
- The Toreros took advantage of a pair of infield errors in the eighth inning to plate a run and Savannah Alarcon added another run with an RBI single of her own, making it 15-7.
