SEATTLE, Wash. – The San Diego men's and women's cross country programs made some school history this Friday, as several runners entered the record books at the NCAA West Regional, at Chambers Bay Golf Club.
The women's team placed 31st with a point total of 957, while the men's side placed 29th with 811 points.
Sophomore
Jake Coleman made some history with a team leading run of 31:05.3, to finish 126th. That mark is the second fastest 10K time in school history. On the women's side, sophomore
Madeleine Heller finished with the top time, with a mark of 21:51.4 to take 173rd.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The women opened the action, with Heller and Daniella Hubble leading the way.
- The duo would slowly climb up the leaderboard, working their way up from 225th and 227th respectively.
- Hubble nearly broke 22 minutes for the first time, finishing in 189th with a time of 22:01.5.
- Macey Holt (22:22.5), Aryam Jaimes (22:22.9) and Gianna Sbarbaro (22:50.0) rounded out the top-five.
- Grace Beal (22:56.6) and Amanda Ghibaudo (22:59.7) also notched personal bests on a big day for the Torero women.
- The men followed it up with a historic performance, as the team tallied five of the top-20 performances in school history in the 10K.
- Coleman came just six seconds away from a school record, running his way up from 184th to a final spot of 126th.
- Ian Converse (31:09.0) recorded the third-fastest time in program history with a personal best of his own.
- Russell Gokemeijer finished with the seventh fastest time in program history, Will Stefanou ended with the 11th fastest time and Sean O'Keefe with the 14th fastest time.
- 12 of 14 runners recorded personal bests on the day including every member of the men's team.
