Softball Concludes Fall Season

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego softball program wrapped up the 2022 fall ball slate on Sunday, playing two games against Cal State San Marcos. The Toreros drew with the Cougars 4-4 in game one and earned a 7-5 win in game two at the USD Softball Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Toreros and Cougars played two, seven inning games on Sunday, with the Cougars taking early leads in both.
  • The two sides went through four scoreless frames in game one, with Madison Earnshaw turning in a strong showing in the circle for the Toreros.
  • However, the Cougars broke into the lead in the fifth and sixth inning to jump ahead 4-0.
  • Showing strength under pressure, the Toreros clawed back late in the game. In the sixth inning, Mikalyn Emanuelli tallied an RBI single to shave the lead to 4-1.
  • The next inning, the Toreros got two runners on base to set up Alexia Torculas. Torculas laced the first pitch she saw into the right field corner for a double, scoring both runners and cutting the lead to 4-3.
  • Izzy Owen helped secure a draw after bringing home Torculas on an RBI single.
  • In game two, San Marcos was able to build another big early lead, this time leading 5-0 after three innings.
  • However, the Toreros had another answer for the Cougars that began in the bottom of the third inning, that began with an RBI sacrifice fly from Torculas.
  • The Toreros capped off the inning with a double steal, that allowed Clareese Santiago to steal home and make it 5-2.
  • In the fourth inning, Owen and Joecellia Roberts opened the frame with a single and a double to put runners in scoring position. EJ Joyner brought home a runner with a sacrifice fly and another run came home on an error to make it 5-4.
  • After an Alyssa Hernandez single and a Santiago walk, the bases were loaded for KJ Hopfer. Hopfer put the ball in play and it was bobbled by the San Marcos second baseman to score a run and tie the game.
  • Roberts gave the Toreros the lead for good in the sixth inning on an RBI single and the Toreros never looked back, winning the game 7-5.
