USD Drops Series Finale to SMC

Toreros fall 11-0 to Gaels at the Reggie Smith Softball Complex

SAN DIEGO — San Diego softball (17-28, 3-9 WCC) fell to Saint Mary's (36-12, 11-1 WCC) by a tough 11-0 margin in five innings on Sunday afternoon as the Toreros and Gaels wrapped up their WCC series at the Reggie Smith Softball Complex.

The Gaels struck early and never let up, plating four runs in the first inning on an RBI single and a three-run home run to left field. Kaitlyn Bartlow started in the circle before giving way to Alex Riggs, who kept San Diego in striking distance for a time before Saint Mary's added two more in the fourth and erupted for five in the fifth to trigger the run rule.

San Diego's offense managed just three hits on the afternoon — a Kaylee Oh infield single and a Mallory Axline double put two runners in scoring position in the fourth, but the Toreros couldn't cash in. Kelsey Tadlock earned the final two outs in the circle for San Diego on the afternoon.

The Toreros will be back in action this weekend when they travel to Pacific to play their final road series of 2026. First pitch from Bill Simoni field on Friday is set for 6 p.m.
