SAN DIEGO – Coming down to No. 1 singles, the No. 26 University of San Diego men's tennis team won a thriller over No. 10 Harvard, 4-3. The Toreros won their seventh straight match over a ranked opponent after No. 6 August Holmgren earned a 6-3, 6-7, 6-2 win to clinch the match.
 
USD captured the doubles point with 6-4 wins at No. 1 (August Holmgren/Gui Osorio) and No. 2 (Will Davies/Sacchitt Sharrma).
 
In singles play, USD got victories from Osorio at No. 2 and Davies at No. 6. Harvard answered with wins at No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5 to make it 3-3.
 
At No. 1 singles, Holmgren battled No. 23 Henry von der Schulenberg to a third set, where he clinched the match with a 6-2 win.
 
"Huge win for this program today," said head coach Ryan Keckley. "I am so proud of every guy on this team as it truly was a team effort against a very well-coached and established Harvard squad. Our boys have been in these kinds of battles all year long which helped prepare us for today's war. We knew it would come down to a few points here and there and whoever handled those moments better would come away with the win. We challenged this team over the last two weeks with our home schedule, and these boys appropriately responded by showing the coaching staff how tough they really are."
 
USD improves to 13-2 on the season, including 12-1 at home.
