SAN DIEGO – The University of San Diego women's tennis team (16-6) earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, and will face Arizona State (16-7) in the first round. The regional will be hosted by the University of Oklahoma. The winner will face the winner of No. 2 Oklahoma and Bryant.
USD was ranked No. 45 in the NCAA in the latest ITA Rankings, and advanced to the WCC Championship game after defeating No. 2 seed LMU in the semifinals, 4-1.
Solymar Colling currently holds a singles ranking of No. 50 and has 11 wins from the No. 1 spot this season.
Arizona State ranks No. 17 in the NCAA, and fell to Stanford in the Pac-12 championship match. The Sun Devils have qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the 34th consecutive season.
The teams have already met once this season, when Arizona State came away with a 4-2 win on February 26. ASU earned the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. In singles play,
Jordyn McBride earned a comeback win at No. 4, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 after
Victoria Kalaitzis handled business at No. 6, 6-2, 6-0.
