August Holmgren to Compete for NCAA Singles Championship

CHAMPAIGN, IL – Redshirt senior August Holmgren of the University of San Diego men's tennis team has advanced to the NCAA Singles championship match, defeating defending champion Sam Riffice (Florida) in the semifinals, 6-7, 6-4, 6-2.
 
Holmgren will face Florida's No. 1 Ben Shelton in the championship match on Saturday. It will be a rematch of the ITA All-American Championship from October, when Shelton earned a 6-3, 6-4 win.
 
The WCC Player of the Year currently holds a 33-5 record in singles play leading up to the national final.
 
Holmgren is the first Torero to appear in the NCAA Singles Championship since Pierrick Ysern in 2005. He also competed in the NCAA Doubles Championship with teammate Gui Osorio, falling to Tennessee's Adam Walton and Pat Harper, 6-3, 6-2.
