August Holmgren Named ITA Senior Player of the Year

SAN DIEGO – August Holmgren of the University of San Diego men's tennis team added another national award to his resume on Monday, as he was named Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Senior Player of the Year.
 
The award comes a week after Holmgren was officially named an All-American in addition to ITA Southwest Region Senior Player of the Year.
 
After a run to the NCAA Singles championship match, Holmgren earned the No. 4 spot in the ITA's final singles rankings, which is second best in program history. Holmgren's monumental season includes NCAA Singles Runner-Up, WCC Player of the Year, WCC Regular Season and Tournament Champion, 33-6 (7-0 WCC) singles record, led Toreros to No. 17 team ranking and highest final team ranking since 1990, ranked No. 1 singles player by ITA on 12/8, winner of the ITA Fall National Championship, ITA All-American Championship Runner-Up, and NCAA Doubles Championship participant.
 
The Denmark native was also the first Torero to appear in the NCAA Singles Championship since Pierrick Ysern in 2005.
