Men’s Basketball Adds 12 for 2022-23

SAN DIEGO – The University of San Diego men's basketball team has added 12 student-athletes ahead of the 2022-23 season, head coach Steve Lavin announced.
 
Deuce Turner (Coatesville, PA/Malvern Prep/Bucknell/South Plains College), Nic Lynch (Seattle, WA/Seattle Prep/Lehigh), Bendji Pierre (Irvington, NJ/The Patrick School/Indian River State College), Jaiden Delaire (North Granby, CT/Granby Memorial/Stanford), Elliyas Delaire (North Granby, CT/Loomis Chaffee/Lewis & Clark College), Eric Williams Jr. (Port Huron, MI/New Haven/Duquesne/Oregon), Sigu Sisoho Jawara (Barcelona, Spain/LMU/Weber State), Jeremiah Nyarko (Accra, Ghana/Sierra Canyon), Neel Beniwal (Garnet Valley, PA/The Phelps School), Deven Dahlke (Phoenix, AZ/St. Mary's HS/Drake), Emmanuel Callas (Moraga, CA/Choate), and Steven Jamerson II (Los Angeles, CA/Crespi Carmelite) will join the program ahead of the 2022-23 season.
 
Turner has previous experience at Bucknell University and South Plains College in Texas. At 6'2, 185-pounds, the guard set the South Plains record for most points in a game with 50, including 13 three-pointers. Turner averaged 18.3 points per game, and was named Second Team JUCO All-American in addition to First Team All-Conference. While at Malvern Prep, he averaged 26.6 points as a junior and 25.1 points as a senior. Turner finished his high school career with 2,452 points and set the school record for most points in a game (48).
 
Lynch is a 6'11, 260-pound center from Seattle, WA. During his four years at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, he scored 793 points and grabbed 409 rebounds. Lynch drastically improved his three-point shot, making 28-of-61 (45.9%) last season. On February 23, 2022, he dropped a career-high 30 points against American, including a career-high five triples. Lynch was a three-star recruit by ESPN coming out of Seattle Prep, where he scored over 1,000 points in three seasons of varsity.
 
Pierre, a 6'8, 230-pound forward from Irvington, NJ, averaged 16.4 points and 8.5 rebounds per game last season at Indian River State College. His best game of the season came on November 17 against Daytona State College, when he registered 40 points on 17-19 from the floor. Other notable games include 21 points and 15 rebounds against Albany Tech, 23 points and 16 rebounds against South Georgia Tech, and 19 points and 12 rebounds against Florida Southwestern State. Pierre was named to First Team All-Conference, Region 8 All-Tournament Team, and NJCAA Player of the Week during his time at Indian River.
 
Jaiden Delaire, the Pac-12's Most Improved Player in 2021, comes in at 6'9, 215 pounds. In four years at Stanford, he racked up 917 points, 262 rebounds, 83 assists, 63 steals, and 42 blocks. As a junior, Delaire averaged 12.5 points per game in 23 appearances. Last year as a senior, he averaged 10.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game. On December 12 of last season, he hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer against Oregon for a 72-69 win, ending with 20 points. Prior to Stanford, Delaire was named 2018 Gatorade Boys Basketball Player of the Year in the state of Connecticut and was a consensus four-star prospect. He averaged 21.3 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game for The Loomis Chaffee School in 2017-18.
 
Elliyas Delaire, the brother of Jaiden, attended Loomis Chaffee in Connecticut. A 6'2, 175-pound guard, Delaire was named All-State, All-Conference, and Conference Tournament MVP in high school.
 
In four years of college basketball (two at Duquesne and two at Oregon), Williams Jr. compiled 1,420 points, 818 rebounds, 174 assists, and 130 steals. During his freshman and sophomore seasons at Duquesne, he had 905 career points and 522 career rebounds, averaging 14.1 points and 8.2 rebounds. Williams Jr. also registered 17 double-doubles during his first two seasons. As a junior at Oregon, he ranked 11th in the Pac-12 in rebounding at 6.0 per game in addition to 10.0 points per game. As a senior, he averaged 8.4 points and 4.6 rebounds.
 
Sisoho Jawara is a 6'3 guard who spent one year at LMU before transferring to Weber State for two seasons. In his career, he has compiled 813 points, 169 rebounds, 212 assists, and 76 steals. Sisoho Jawara averaged over 12.2 points per game in each of his last two seasons, drilling 100 three-pointers in that span. He ranks seventh in Weber State history in career three-point field goal percentage at 41.8. The Mataro, Spain native earned All-Big Sky Second Team honors in 2020-21 before being named to the Third Team last year.
 
Nyarko is a 6'9 forward that most recently played for Sierra Canyon in Chatsworth, CA. Last season, Sierra Canyon posted a 26-5 record and advanced to the Southern California Regional, finishing with a national ranking of No. 17 by USA Today. Nyarko also attended St. John Bosco High School, where he was named Second Team All-League twice and Student-Athlete of the Year with a 4.0 GPA. In 2018, he was selected to represent Ghana for the NBA Academy in addition to Basketball Without Borders.
 
Beniwal is a 6'5 shooting guard from The Phelps School in Pennsylvania. Beniwal also competed for Rhode Island Elite. He registered 16 points per game, including 100 career three-pointers. The incoming freshman shot 41% from long range.
 
Dahlke competed for the Drake Bulldogs over his first two seasons, appearing in 12 total games. The 6'2 guard thrives on the defensive end. Dahlke guided St. Mary's High School to a 24-4 record and led the team in scoring as a senior. He was the 4A Skyline Region Defensive Player of the Year.
 
Callas is a 6'5 wing that played at both Campolindo High School in Moraga and Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, CT. He was named 2021 Bay Area Player of the Year, was a two-time California All-State selection, and led his team to a CIF State Championship. As a senior, he averaged 15.9 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.0 steals. In his four years of varsity, Campolindo registered a record of 89-24.
 
The 6'10, 210-pound Jamerson II attended Crespi Carmelite High School and also played for West Coast Elite.
