Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Pace Reaches 1,000 Points as Women’s Basketball Downs Loyola Marymount, 61-49

LOS ANGELES – The San Diego women's basketball program (10-8, 4-3 WCC) and graduate student Myah Pace made some history, en route to a 61-49 win over Loyola Marymount (5-14, 2-6 WCC) on Saturday afternoon at the Gersten Pavilion.

Pace reached the 1,000-point plateau in her illustrious career, scoring 10 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Kiera Oakry led all Toreros with 16 points, while Kylie Horstmeyer added 10 points and six rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • While the Toreros would ultimately prevail, it wasn't a very clean start, as the Lions opened up a lead as big as 11 points off the first bucket of the second quarter.
  • However, the Toreros brought themselves back into the game almost immediately, as Amanda Olinger scored a bucket and Oakry nailed a three-pointer through a foul, as the Toreros went on an 11-0 run to tie the game at 22-22.
  • After a three pointer from Olinger, Oakry gave the Toreros their first lead at 27-25 on a lay-in and San Diego would head into the break tied at 27-27.
  • After trading buckets throughout the third quarter in a period that featured five ties, a Jess Finney three pointer helped to ignite the offense.
  • San Diego responded with a 19-2 run to take a 58-41 lead, while hounding the Lions into just 20 percent shooting in the fourth quarter and five turnovers.
  • Hortsmeyer was a key piece of the run, scoring six points, while Finney added another three-pointer.
  • While the Lions would get the lead back to 11, the Toreros iced the game at the free throw line, where Pace tallied her 1,000th point to secure the win.

TORERO TIDBITS
  • Pace becomes the 22nd player in program history to reach 1,000 points in her career.
  • Pace is also the 14th player under head coach Cindy Fisher to reach the milestone at San Diego.
  • With five assists on the day, Pace (332) took sole possession of eighth place on the Toreros all-time charts, breaking a tie with Amy Kame (327). Next up is Dominique Conners (362) in seventh.
  • Pace also finished with six offensive rebounds, moving her just one shy of the top-10 in program history.
  • The Toreros held an opponent under 50 points for the fourth time this season. That's the most by the team since the 2019-20 season, when they won five such games.
