SAN DIEGO – In its first match of the spring, the University of San Diego men's tennis team earned a comeback win over #23 Texas A&M, 4-3. After the Aggies earned the doubles point, USD won four singles matches (
Sacchitt Sharrma,
Stian Klaassen,
Oliver Tarvet,
Neo Niedner) to clinch the win.
"Extremely proud of this group for the team win today," said head coach
Ryan Keckley. "Texas A&M is one heck of a team and it took everything we had for this match to go our way. Our intangibles were on point which allowed us to make the right adjustments throughout the course of the day. Those intangibles and our team unity won us this match.
"What I'm most excited about is the fact that we got better as the match progressed. I thought we came out nervous on several courts which is expected when you are playing 3 freshmen, but we managed to maintain our focus and move forward. We've said from the beginning that we will be a good team in January, but a very good team come April because of how our boys operate daily. The work we put in this fall certainly paid off today, and I'm excited to continue to progress forward with this squad."
