PORTLAND, Ore. – The San Diego women's soccer program (1-11-2, 0-3-1 WCC) kept a close game through the first 45 minutes, but ultimately fell, 4-0, at Portland (9-2-2, 3-1-0 WCC) on Saturday evening at Merlo Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- While the Toreros limited Portland to just one goal in the first half, the Pilots created many of the chances in the opening period.
- After a sterling save by Sophine Kevorkian midway through the first period, the Pilots were able to score first in the 28th minute.
- Despite the shot disparity, the Toreros nearly struck for an equalizer, as Talei Moodie ripped a ball from outside the box in the 43rd minute, forcing Pilots goalkeeper Bre Norris to make a diving save.
- Portland would pull away in the second half, with three additional goals over the first 15 minutes of the half.
- Nevertheless, Moodie got another quality chance off a set piece from Olivia Stone, but Norris made the save.
- It would prove to be the last strong opportunity for the Toreros on the evening.
