SAN DIEGO – The San Diego women's basketball program (2-2, 0-0 WCC) fell into an early deficit and could not recover, dropping a game to Princeton (3-1, 0-0 Ivy), 62-51, on Sunday afternoon at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
Kasey Neubert led all Toreros with 12 points and four rebounds, while
Harsimran Kaur added nine points, four rebounds and four blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- While both sides spent the first five minutes feeling things out, it was Princeton who was able to break away early.
- Despite a strong steal from Veronica Sheffey to set up a Jess Finney three, the Tigers created some early separation and led 16-10 after the first quarter.
- After trading baskets early in the second quarter, Princeton extended their advantage with a 9-2 run.
- San Diego was held to just 18.8 percent shooting in the second and trailed 31-18 at halftime.
- Neubert and Kaur attempted to rally the Toreros back with a combined nine points in the third quarter, but the Toreros couldn't break down the Princeton lead.
- Princeton held an 18-point lead with just under two minutes left, but the Toreros attempted a late rally.
- A 9-2 run by the Toreros that featured a Finney three-pointer cut the lead to 11, but the Toreros would get no closer.
TORERO TIDBITS
- Sheffey recorded a career-high five steals in the loss, which is the most by any Torero this season.
- Kaur is up to nine blocks this season with another four against Princeton. The forward had nine blocks all of last season,
