Mio Mushika Signs with Women’s Tennis on National Signing Day

SAN DIEGO – Head coach Nadia Abdala and the San Diego women's tennis program have signed another top international talent, inking Mio Mushika to a National Letter of Intent on National Signing Day.
 
A native of Aichi, Japan, Mushika has already made waves on the international stage, reaching a career-high WTA ranking of No. 689 in the world. Mushika has already won an ITF W15 doubles title in Osaka, Japan and reached the semifinal of the ITF W25 singles event in Karuizawa, Japan.
 
Alongside her twin sister Mao, the duo reached the quarterfinal of the 2022 Australian Open junior's championship. Mushika has also represented Japan for the ITF U14 World Junior Finals and led the team to finish fifth in 2018 and sixth in 2019.
 
Mushika becomes the third sister in her family to come overseas and play collegiate tennis, as her twin sister Mao plays for California, while her older sister Chiho recently concluded her collegiate career at San Francisco.
 
Mushika will join the Toreros as a freshman in the fall of 2024.
