SAN DIEGO – The San Diego women's soccer program has officially announced the signing of seven players to National Letters of Intent, who are set to join the program next season.
ELLA CALLANAN
Position: Defender
Hometown/High School: Portland, Ore. / Franklin HS
Club: Portland Thorns Academy ECNL
Career Highlights:
- A team captain and starter for her entire career, Callanan scored 23 goals in a holding midfield role.
- Callanan won her conference's offensive player of the year honors, despite her primarily defensive role and earned multiple All-League First Team distinctions.
- Callanan was one of only eight prep players in the nation to be named to the 2023 WPSL All-Conference Team.
- In addition, Callanan had a standout club career, helping Thorns Academy earned the lowest goals against average in the nation.
- A two-time United Soccer Coaches Club All-American, Callanan was a starter for both the 2023 ODP National Team and the 2023 ODP West Regional Team, where she scored two goals with the latter.
Other Notes:
- Callanan has been a tremendous student, maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA and being named to the academic honor roll all four years of high school.
- The defender also played futsal, helping her youth futsal team reach the World Futsal Championship Finals, which led to an opportunity for a trial with Spanish club Atletico Madrid.
HANNAH FAKLARIS
Position: Defender
Hometown/High School: Atlanta, Ga. / Marist School
Club: TopHat SC
Career Highlights:
- A talented center back from Georgia, Faklaris joins the Toreros following a standout high school and club career.
- Faklaris helped her team with the 2021 state title and was also named the Offensive MVP, despite her defensive position.
- In addition, Faklaris and Marist reached the 2023 GHSA State 6A Final.
Other Notes:
- Faklaris comes from a highly athletic background, as her father, Chris, played soccer at South Carolina and also played in the U20 FIFA World Cup, while her sister Lexy plays soccer at Furman.
- In addition to soccer, Faklaris was a First Team All-Conference selection in basketball.
- A talented student, Faklaris is a National Honor Society member who has been named to the Honor Roll and Dean's List.
CLARA GEUZAINE
Position: Defender
Hometown/High School: Highlands Ranch, Colo. / Rock Canyon HS
Club: Real Colorado ECNL
Career Highlights:
- Geuzaine is a highly accomplished high school and club player, who helped her ECNL side win the 2022 ECNL National title.
- With Real Colorado ECNL, she also won three ECNL Northwest championships.
- The Colorado native is a four-time All-Conference honoree, being tabbed to the first team as a senior and junior, as well as the second team as a sophomore and freshman.
- The defender was Rock Canyon's 2023 MVP and named an All-State honoree in 2023.
Other Notes:
- Geuzaine is a gifted student, earning highest honors (over a 4.0 GPA), as well as being a National Honor Society and French Honor Society member.
- Geuzaine has Canadian roots and is a fluent speaker of French.
MARISSA MORALES
Position: Forward
Hometown/High School: Gilbert, Ariz. / Arete Preparatory Academy
Club: Arizona Arsenal SC
Career Highlights:
- Morales was named her conference's Co-Offensive Player of the Year as a junior.
- In addition, Morales is a two-time First Team All-Region award winner who most recently scored 21 goals as a junior.
- Morales has also competed in the Olympic Development Program (ODP).
Other Notes:
- Morales has won her school's Saptientia Award for academic success on five occasions since sixth grade.
- In addition, Morales played basketball, flag football and track & field in high school.
BRIANNA NESSER
Position: Forward
Hometown/High School: Riverside, Calif. / Martin Luther King Jr. HS
Club: Slammers FC ECNL
Career Highlights:
- A talented scorer, Nesser tallied 41 goals and 25 assists in her first three high school seasons and has been a starter since her freshman year.
- Nesser is a two-time Team MVP and three-year captain, who has improved every season, earning All-Big 8 League First Team honors as a junior and sophomore, while also earning All-CIF Southern Section First Team and All-Inland Empire Second Team honors.
- In her club career, Nesser helped Slammers reach the ECNL Elite 8 in Virginia.
- Nesser has competed in two U.S. National Team ID camps and ODP.
Other Notes:
- Nesser also competed in track and field, where she also shined and still holds a top-10 mark all-time in the 100m dash.
- In track & field alone, Nesser was a four-time CIF Division I qualifier and five-time Riverside city champion while competing in the 100m, 200m, long jump, triple jump and 4x100m relay.
- Nesser has also been named a scholar athlete in both sports every season.
RHEA PEARSON
Position: Forward
Hometown/High School: Salt Lake City, Utah / East HS
Club: La Rocca ECNL
Career Highlights:
- Pearson is an accomplished player on both the high school and club circuit.
- For East High School, Pearson was named a First Team All-Region honoree.
- In addition, Pearson was a second team All-Northwest Conference honoree with La Rocca ECNL for the 2021-22 season.
Other Notes:
- Pearson was a strong student throughout high school, earning high honor roll all four years.
CHLOE WALLS
Position: Goalkeeper
Hometown/High School: Chula Vista, Calif. / Francis Parker School
Club: San Diego Surf ECNL
Career Highlights:
- A highly accomplished goalkeeper for San Diego Surf, Walls helped the team win four ECNL Southwest Conference titles, two Surf Cup titles and reach the ECNL Elite 8 in 2022.
- Walls was named to the IMG Class of 2024 Top 150 players and earned ECNL Uncommitted Best XI in 2020 and was a Playoffs Standout in 2021.
- An ECNL All-Conference selection in 2021, Walls followed it up by allowing only two goals all of 2022-23 in Southwest Division play.
- In addition, Walls has participated in US Youth National Team camps at the U14 and U16 levels and was an Olympic Development Team final rostered player from 2017-21.
- Walls also helped lead Francis Parker to the 2023 CIF sectional final.
Other Notes:
- Walls has been a highly successful student, being named to the academic honor roll and being a member of the California Scholastic Federation and National Honor Society.
- Walls also played basketball for Francis Parker.
- Her family has ties to USD, as her mother earned an administrative credential at USD in 2006.
