TEMPE, AZ – Playing against each other for the second time in the last six days, the University of San Diego men's tennis team fell at Arizona State, 5-2.
 
Arizona State earned the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. At the No. 1 spot, Iiro Vasa and Sacchitt Sharrma earned a comeback 7-6 victory.
 
In singles, Vasa mounted another comeback at No. 1, finishing with the thrilling 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 win. Vasa defeated ASU's Murphy Cassone, who is currently ranked No. 525 in the world according to the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP). According to UTR, Cassone is currently the highest ranked college tennis player in the nation. 

Freshman Oliver Tarvet pulled out a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 2, improving to a perfect 4-0 in dual match singles this season.

"This was our first true road test of the year and it showed," said head coach Ryan Keckley. "We didn't get comfortable with the competition and conditions until about 2 hours into the match. We fought back in doubles after getting down breaks on all three courts. We had multiple match points at 3 doubles in the breaker to secure the point but we couldn't finish. We need to come out of the gates with more urgency and focus."

"In singles, we lost five of the six first sets which proved to be too much to overcome. We clawed our way back in a few matches, but you can't play your way into matches against good teams and expect a successful outcome. You have to throw that first punch and continue punching until you win or go down trying. Today, we didn't do that."
