Women’s Basketball Downs Loyola Marymount, 64-56

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego women's basketball program (14-10, 8-5 WCC) took home their fourth consecutive victory, defeating Loyola Marymount (6-19, 3-11 WCC), 64-56, on Thursday night at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

Ayanna Khalfani led all Toreros for the third straight game, scoring 16 points and adding five rebounds. Kasey Neubert notched 14 points and seven rebounds, while Amanda Olinger pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds to go with eight points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • While the game started at a deliberate pace for the first five minutes, the Toreros found their shot quickly thereafter in the first quarter.
  • Olinger was the spark plug for the Toreros in the first half, hitting two three pointers and a layup after the Toreros went down 6-4, to build a 16-11 lead at the end of the first.
  • However, the Lions would not go away and rallied to retake the lead at 23-22.
  • Four points late in the quarter by Neubert helped recover a one-point lead heading into the break.
  • LMU proved to be the quickest starters in the third quarter, opening with a 16-10 stretch to take a five-point lead.
  • A timeout helped rally the Toreros, as Kiera Oakry scored four straight points out of the huddle to cut the LMU lead to 43-42 after the third quarter.
  • An 8-0 run by the Toreros helped give the team all they needed to put the game out of reach, as Khalfani scored six consecutive points in the run.
  • Myah Pace would step up in the clutch, sealing the win at the free throw line, with eight of her 10 points coming in the fourth quarter.

TORERO TIDBITS
  • With one offensive rebound tonight, Pace moved into a tie with Sydney Hunter (221) for ninth on the Toreros all-time list. Next up is Amber Sprague (236) in eighth.
  • In addition, Pace (277) took over sole possession of eighth on the made free throw list with four on the night. Next up is Marta Menuez (303) in seventh.
  • The Toreros have made their free throw chances count in the last two wins, going a combined 27-for-29 (93.1%) from the line.
