DALLAS, TX – After dropping the doubles point, the No. 30 University of San Diego men's tennis team responded by winning four straight singles matches to defeat No. 52 Old Dominion in a neutral site clash, 4-1.
The Monarchs clinched the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3.
In singles, freshman
Neo Niedner raced to a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6. Sophomore
Iiro Vasa followed with a 6-4, 6-2 margin on court one, and redshirt junior
Marvin Schaber earned USD's third point with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 5. Freshman
Oliver Tarvet clinched the overall victory with a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 2.
"We did a great job setting the tone from the very beginning of singles play," said head coach
Ryan Keckley. "We came out with urgency in both doubles and singles, we just got soft during the doubles point when it mattered. Our energy was fantastic and we competed within ourselves on a hot Texas day. This is a great team win for this group against a very talented ODU team."
San Diego improves to 8-4, and will compete against SMU on Wednesday afternoon.
