PROVO, Utah – The San Diego softball program (19-27-1, 4-5 WCC) were unable to rally from an early deficit, falling 8-0 to BYU (28-13, 7-2 WCC) on Saturday afternoon at Gail Miller Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a leadoff walk from Izzy Owen to open the game, the Toreros were largely left off the basepaths for the remainder of the contest.
- BYU struck for a run in the opening inning, but added four more in the second inning to take a 5-0 advantage.
- The Toreros had their best scoring opportunity in the second inning, as EJ Joyner singled and advanced on a wild pitch, while KJ Hopfer drew a walk.
- However, the inning would end without a run, as both players were stranded on the basepaths.
- Madison Earnshaw came in to pitch following Kelsey Tadlock's start and would start strong, opening her outing with three scoreless frames.
- However, the Cougars were able to generate some late momentum, scoring three more runs to end the game in five innings.

- Earnshaw moved into a tie for fourth on the Toreros all-time pitching appearances list, matching Cassidy Coleman (108).
