LOS ANGELES – The No. 30 San Diego men's tennis program (18-8, 8-1 WCC) fought until the end, but were unable to earn a comeback, falling to No. 10 USC (21-7, 6-2 PAC-12), 4-1, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- While the duo of Iiro Vasa and Sacchitt Sharrma got off to a strong start in doubles, they were unable to reap the rewards of their efforts, as USC struck for wins at the second and third doubles positions to take a 1-0 lead.
- Singles opened with some early Torero success, as Vasa came out quickly against his top-25 opponent with a 6-1 win in the first set.
- Oliver Tarvet started quickly as well, securing the first set in his match at 6-4.
- Vasa got the Toreros on the board and tied the match at 1-1, with a 6-3 second set to comfortably move past his Trojan opponent.
- However, the Trojans had answers of their own and were not only able to jump back in front, but pick up key victories at fifth and fourth singles.
- Needing a comeback, the Toreros would ultimately fall short, despite gritty efforts on the remaining courts.
