SAN DIEGO – San Diego women's soccer alumna
Michaela Foster has been selected to the New Zealand National Team roster for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, hosted by Australia and New Zealand from July 20 to August 20.
Foster was selected to the 23-person squad for the first time in her professional career. Foster is one of 10 players that is set for their World Cup debut with New Zealand.
A native of Hamilton, New Zealand, Foster has been playing professional soccer for Wellington Phoenix FC, in the top-flight of Australian soccer. The defender has been capped four times by her national team and made her senior debut for the team against Argentina in February of this year.
Her international career has already been prolific, as Foster was also a member of New Zealand's U-20 squad at the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.
In her time at San Diego that culminated in her graduation after the 2021-22 season, Foster anchored the back line for the Toreros and also chipped in on the offensive end, particularly on penalty kicks.
