SAN DIEGO – The San Diego women's tennis program is set to officially open up their 2024 campaign this weekend, welcoming No. 4 Stanford (0-0, 0-0 PAC-12) and No. 2 Texas A&M (0-0, 0-0 SEC) on Friday and Saturday at the Hogan Tennis Center.
The Toreros will play the Cardinal on Friday at 12 p.m., and the Aggies on Saturday at 12 p.m. Stanford and Texas A&M will also play a neutral site contest on Sunday.
OPPONENT HISTORY
- San Diego is seeking their first ever win over Stanford in their 11th meeting.
- The Toreros are 2-4 all-time against Texas A&M and meet for the second straight season after competing against each other at the ITA National Indoor Championship.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
- The Toreros are led into the season by reigning WCC Coach of the Year Nadia Abdala, who enters her second season as head coach.
- San Diego is seeking their first win over a top-10 opponent since a Mar. 17, 2013 win over No. 6 Nebraska and first top-five since Mar. 19, 1999 over No. 4 California.
- San Diego was recently picked second in the WCC preseason poll, finishing only behind Pepperdine.
- In addition, Claudia De Las Heras and Elizabeth Goldsmith earned nods on the WCC's Preseason Team for the first time.
- The Toreros currently feature one player ranked in the ITA national rankings, with Mia Mack checking in at No. 89 in singles.
- Freshman Kristina Nordikyan joins the program this semester as a newcomer and will be eligible to play this spring.
- Nordikyan was ranked as a five-star recruit at No. 43 in the nation and No. 9 in California by the Tennis Recruiting Network.
