STOCKTON, Calif. — Tied-for-second-place finishes from both graduate transfer
Jaden Cantafio and sophomore
You Seong Choi led the way for San Diego golf on Wednesday afternoon as it placed first of 15 teams to win the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational at Stockton Golf and Country Club (Par 71, 6,566 yards), securing its first tournament victory and third consecutive top-five finish of 2024-2025.
As a team, the Toreros totaled 820 strokes with rounds of 272, 275, and 273, placing them 32 under par as they closed out the three-day event with a clutch third round to overtake tournament host and fellow West Coast Conference opponent Pacific (-28) after trailing by two shots on Tuesday.
Wednesday afternoon marks the first career tournament victory for new head coach Evan Emerick, who took the helm at USD in June.
Cantafio and Choi both concluded the tournament with 202 total strokes across three identical rounds of 66, 69, and 67, giving them both tied-for-second-place scores of 11-under across a field of 91 total golfers.
True freshman Cooper Humphreys was just behind Cantafio and Choi for the Toreros as he turned in a top 10 performance of his own with rounds of 70, 69, and 67 (206) to finish T-8 with a final score of -7.
Senior Ian Maspat carded the next-best performance for San Diego, shooting rounds of 70, 68, and 72 (210) to finish T-22 with a final score of -3.
Sophomore Ryan Abuan placed T-47 (+4, 72, 70, 75, 217), and was followed by true freshman Henry Dall, who competed as an individual and placed T-57 (+5, 71, 76, 71, 218), to round out USD's results.
The Toreros are back in action on Tuesday, October 29, when they travel to Kapolei, Hawai'i to begin play in the Kapolei Invitational at Kapolei Golf Course.
