RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The University of San Diego Women's Cross Country paced to seventh while the men finished 13
th at the UCR Highlander invitational Saturday morning in a strong finish to the regular season.
Not far from home, runners on both the men's and women's side led their teams in their respective races by cracking the top 25 as the women placed seventh of 24 and the men 13
th of 20. 13 of 17 women logged 6K PRs.
"I am proud of both teams for their unity and commitment towards the love of the sport and how they showed it in racing today," head coach
Will Guarino said. "They are a young group growing up fast as they are figuring out their racing strengths."
Grace Maurer paced the way for the women again, placing 22
nd on a 21:35.7. As did
Aryam Jaimes, who wasn't far behind at 21:49.3 in 31
st. The remaining three scorers cracked the top 90 in 63
rd, 78
th and 90
th.
"The Women ran their best race of the season so far," Guarino added. "I loved the fact that they raced together and, too, showed the courage that you need at this stage of the season to be at your best."
On the men's side, senior
Jake Coleman took off and landed in 17
th with a time of 24:38.2, 10 seconds off of a 8K course program record for USD. The second and third scorers for the Toreros,
Anthony Lenzini and Jack Devries notched personal bests on the day.
"We now will focus on recovering, training hard, and setting our sights for our upcoming conference meet in a couple of weeks," said Guarino.
The Toreros will take on the WCC Championships on Saturday, Nov. 2 in Lodi, Calif..
