KAPOLEI, Hawaii — A top-two finish from sophomore
You Seong Choi on Thursday afternoon led the way for San Diego golf as it concluded its fall 2024 campaign in style with a second-place finish at the Kapolei Invitational in Kapolei, Hawaii. Choi paced USD with 213 total strokes across three identical rounds of 71 strokes each, allowing him to finish T-2 with a final score of three under.
As a team, the Toreros finished in second place of 15 total programs in the tournament, combining for a score of six-over on the event after team rounds of 287, 291, and 292 strokes that saw it finish ahead of every participating team but tournament winner Miami (OH), which finished with a total score of seven-under.
Fellow sophomore Ryan Abuan was just behind Choi for USD after turning in a top-ten finish of his own, shooting even par with rounds of 67, 73, and 76 (216) to finish tied for seventh overall in the tournament across a field of 87 total golfers.
Senior Ian Maspat carded the next-best performance for San Diego with rounds of 73, 74, and 72 (219) to finish T-15 with a final score of +3.
Freshman Cooper Humphreys and graduate transfer Jaden Cantafio rounded out the results for the USD by finishing T-35 (+6, 76, 73, 73, 222) and T-72 (+17, 76, 80, 77, 233), respectively.
The Toreros will resume their 2024-2025 season on February 17, 2025, when they travel to Palm Springs, California to compete in The Prestige at PGA West - Norman Course.
