FAIRFAX, Calif. — Sophomore
Ryan Abuan led the way for San Diego Golf on Tuesday afternoon as it completed play in the Alister MacKenzie Invitational at Meadow Club (Par 71, 6,734 Yards) in Fairfax, California. Abuan paced USD by carding a 13-under with rounds of 66, 67, and 67, allowing him to finish tied for ninth place among 84 total golfers with a total of 200 strokes.
Fellow sophomore You Seong Choi was just behind for USD at 12-under, shooting 67, 66, and 68 for a total of 201 strokes as he finished tied for eleventh place.
As a team, San Diego finished third of 14 total programs in the tournament, combining for a total score of -49 and 803 strokes on the event after team rounds of 271, 266, and 266 that saw it fall seven shots shy of tournament winner San Jose State (-56, 264, 267, 265, 796 total strokes) and six strokes short of second place finisher and conference opponent Pacific (-55, 271, 256, 270, 797 total strokes).
Washington State graduate transfer Jaden Cantafio finished with the next best card behind Abuan and Choi, as he turned in scores of 69, 67, and 66 (202) to finish -11 and tied for thirteenth overall in the tournament.
Senior Ian Maspat placed T-23 (-9, 72, 66, 66, 204), and was followed by freshman Cooper Humphreys, who placed T-51 (-3, 69, 74, 67, 210) to round out San Diego's results.
The Toreros are back in action next Monday, when they begin play in the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational at Stockton Golf and Country Club in Stockton, California.
