COLFAX, Wash. – The San Diego men's and women's cross country teams showed the promise of their talents at season's end in the NCAA West Regional as USD's individual performances extended beyond the men's finish in 29th and the Torero women in 31st.
"I was pleased with the results and was happy to see the team push themselves to their potential at the most critical part of the season," head coach
Will Guarino said.
Both teams kicked off the Western Regional meet with a strong start. The Women's team, in particular, made a powerful start and positioned themselves well in the race. Graduate student
Grace Maurer, as in every race this season, led the team with a bold race, securing the 128th position at the finish. Junior
Aryam Jaimes followed closely, maintaining the second position for the Toreros, and was supported by sophomore
Rebecca Bronstein, San Diego's third scorer.
Maggie Duba and
Nathalie Green ran close behind to secure USD's fourth and fifth positions.
The women finished the race in 31st place with 908 points, ahead of Utah Teach, USC, Pepperdine, Portland State, LMU, CSUN, UNLV and Pacific.
On the men's side, senior
Jake Coleman again led the Men. He came within 10 seconds of the 10km school record and finished in 87th place overall, a tremendous achievement at the culmination of the season. The five scoring men combined to finish in 29th with 838 points. Coleman nor any of the women were able to qualify for the NCAA Championship races, marking the end of the Toreros' 2024 cross country season, a season of growth and trial.
