WACO, Texas – San Diego Tennis sees three student-athletes take on the NCAA Tennis Individual Championships as
Kailey Evans will represent the women in singles while
Oliver Tarvet is the No. 7 seed in the men's singles field and combines with
Stian Klaassen as the top overall doubles seed.
Tarvet, a junior from St. Albans, England, kicks off the Toreros action at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday battling ITA No. 6 Radu Papoe of Cornell. The ITA's No. 3 player nationally is undefeated this fall after winning the ITA All-American Championship in September and returns to the NCAA Championships after bowing out in the second round last spring.
Klaassen, hailing from Zeist, Netherlands, also plays in his second NCAA Individual Championship. He qualified with Tarvet as the ITA All-American Doubles Champions as Tarvet became just the fifth player to win both the singles and doubles title at the season's first big national tournament, the first since 2015.
The pair cruised to the title, winning each of their first four matches in straight sets over the third, sixthth, 26th and 72
nd-ranked doubles teams in the country, no less. They won 49 of 74 games in those matches. They're slated to face Eric Verdes and Rushil Kholsa of Cornell on Wednesday.
Evans, a redshirt-senior, returns to her home state for her first NCAA Championships after being selected as the second alternate. She'll face Olivia Benton of Boston College in the first round on Tuesday at 3 p.m. PT.
She was selected after a run from qualifiers to the round of 16 at ITA All-American Championships, defeating the ITA No. 31, 60 and three other top-100 ranked players, also defeating No. 30 in the ITA West Sectional first round earlier this month.
The matches will be streamed on ESPN+ with commentary provided by Cracked Racquets' Alex Gruskin, while alternate court-by-court stream, live results and tournament/bracket hub links and more notes can be found at USDToreros.com as updates will be provided from the team accounts on X.
