SAN DIEGO — A trio of standout performances from the Torero bullpen on Wednesday night set the stage for a clutch walk-off RBI single from
Jack Costello, earning San Diego baseball (2-2, 0-0 WCC) a wild 8-7 win over crosstown rival UC San Diego (3-1, 0-0 Big West) in 10 innings at Fowler Park.
The Tritons struck for three early runs in the top of the first and tied the game with another three runs in the top of the ninth, but were dealt their first loss of the season after Torero righty Drake Frize struck out the side to keep them off the board in the top of the 10th.
Costello delivered the decisive blow with two outs in the bottom of the frame, lacing a looping RBI single into left-center field to plate Justin DeCriscio from second base and push USD to victory in its 2024 home opener.

- UC San Diego scored once in the top of the sixth on an RBI sacrifice fly to move the score to 6-4, but Ryan Ward responded with a sac fly of his own in the top of the eighth to make it a 7-4 game in USD's favor.
- Down to their final out in the top of the ninth, the Tritons tied the game at 7-7 with a RBI double that eventually moved Wednesday night's contest to extra innings.
- With one out in the bottom of the 10th, DeCriscio reached base on a Triton error, then advanced into scoring position by stealing second with two outs.
- Costello followed by ripping a walk-off RBI single into center field, plating DeCriscio from second base to push the Toreros to a wild 8-7 win in extras at Fowler Park.
ROMERO AND SCHRIER DOMINATE OUT OF THE 'PEN
- Ivran Romero entered out of the bullpen in the top of the first and turned in 5.2 impressive innings, allowing only two hits and a walk while striking out a game-high seven.
