FULLERTON, Calif. — A pair of fourth-inning home runs and another shut-down performance from the Torero bullpen on Tuesday night powered San Diego baseball (11-8, 0-0 WCC) to a 7-2 road win over Cal State Fullerton (8-11, 1-2 Big West) at Goodwin Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jack Costello got the scoring started in the top of the first inning, working a full count before slapping an opposite-field RBI single through the right side.
- Jakob Christian and Ariel Armas added on in the top of the fourth with a home run apiece (a two-run shot and a solo shot, respectively) to make it 4-0 in the Toreros' favor.
- After the Titans responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame to cut their deficit to 4-2, Justin DeCriscio (RBI groundout) and Costello (two-RBI single) answered to give USD a 7-2 lead it did not relinquish.
ON THE MOUND
- Ryan Kysar started Tuesday night's game on the mound for USD and allowed two earned runs on three hits across 3.2 innings while striking out a game-high five and walking only one.
- Ivran Romero entered in relief of Kysar in the fourth and was perfect across 2.1 innings.
- Dallin Harrison, Aidan Gonzalez, and Nick Suspenzi teamed up to throw three no-hit frames to seal the win.
TORERO TIDBITS
- Armas had a game-high three hits, drove in a run, and scored a run while steering the Torero pitching staff to a strong outing behind the plate.
- Costello was 2-for-4 with a walk and a game-high three RBIs.
- Harrison and Gonzalez were both perfect in their single innings of relief, and the lone blemish on Suspenzi's ninth-inning appearance was a leadoff walk.
- Romero picked up the win on Tuesday to move to 3-1 in 2024.
