No. 15 Women’s Tennis Drops Nailbiter at No. 28 Washington

Box Score SEATTLE, Wash. – The No. 15 San Diego women's tennis program (10-5, 0-0 WCC) nearly recovered from dropping the doubles point, but fell, 4-3 at No. 28 Washington (13-6, 2-2 PAC-12) on Wednesday afternoon at Bill Quillian Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Toreros found themselves in an early hole, as the Huskies jumped out to leads in all three doubles matches and secured the opening point.
  • Nevertheless, the Toreros began to chip away, as their depth shined early on.
  • Kailey Evans breezed to another victory at No. 6 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win, while Abigail Desiatnikov was close behind with her own straight-set win.
  • After Washington tied the match at 2-2, all three remaining matches would go to a third set.
  • Jordyn McBride showed toughness in a rally from a break point down in the third set, but could not hang on.
  • Meanwhile, Claudia De Las Heras put a second set loss behind her to hold serve against some early break point chances and use it to power ahead 4-1, before ultimately tying the match at 3-3 with a 6-3 third set win.
  • However, Washington was able to edge past the Toreros with a three-set thriller on court three to win the match.

NEXT UP
  • The Toreros will open WCC play on Friday at 11 a.m., as they travel to face LMU in Los Angeles, Calif.
